“In Darkness, What Do You Hold On To?”

This week’s Pastor to Person was written by Pastor Daniel Grant.

Are you having a rough day, a rough week, or a rough life? Take courage friend, you’re in good company. Paul was imprisoned unjustly. Transported over the Mediterranean on a cargo ship. He gives the crew solid advice which the captain promptly ignores! They find themselves in the most desperate of situations – blown off course, outrageous wind, colossal waves, and two weeks of not even seeing the sun… The sailors want to abandon the ship, the soldiers want to kill all the prisoners, and none of them have eaten. (I’m not a nice person when I haven’t eaten, ask my wife)

What does Paul (the prisoner) do in the midst of all this? He prays and spends time with Jesus. In the ship where there is NO PEACE, he takes hold of the Prince of Peace. God delivers this precious message to him: Acts 27:22-25 “And now I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. 23 For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve, 24 saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.’ 25 Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me.”

Spoiler alert, God does EXACTLY as He said he would – everyone is rescued. Paul interceded on behalf of the whole 276-person crew. Beloved, no matter the storm, or the sickness, or the abandonment that you feel, reach out for the Prince of Peace. He is our hope, He is our anchor, He is our very life, hold on to Him and you’ll find that you have everything you need!!
