“LeMay Leaflets”

This week’s Pastor to Person was written by Pastor Caleb Beller.

[Rev 14:6 NIV] 6 Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth–to every nation, tribe, language and people.

Through much of World War II, Allied bombers would sometimes drop leaflets warning of impending bombing of a city. The leaflets often told civilians to evacuate, and sometimes encouraged them to push their leaders to surrender. In August 1945, leaflets were dropped on several Japanese cities (including, supposedly, Hiroshima and Nagasaki). The first round, known as the “LeMay leaflets,” were distributed before the bombing of Hiroshima.

These leaflets served as warning of the impending destruction. It gave people an opportunity to choose life and escape. Here we see similarly the grace and mercy of God on full display. Three warnings are unleashed for the world to see.

The first is the message of the gospel to every nation, tribe, language and people! What an amazing example of grace. Everyone everywhere receives an equal opportunity to make a choice about Jesus! The second warning is a prophecy about the collapse of the antichrist’s kingdom “Babylon”! The world is warned Babylon is a sinking ship! Vs.8 “Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the great”. The last warning is the eternal consequences of choosing to worship the beast. Vs.11 “there will be not rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image,”

These warnings proceed the judgment. God in His grace has scattered us as leaflets in our cities and families! Do people hear and see the gospel in us? Are we sounding the alarm? Jesus has done his part; the question is will we? Who do you need to tell this week?
